GET TO KNOW MOZE AND ZANE'S NEW SKILL TREES

The Designer's Cut DLC launching for Borderlands 3 on November 10, available as part of Season Pass 2 or individual purchase, offers all-new ways to play including an additional skill tree for each Vault Hunter. Earlier we gave you a look at Amara and FL4K's new skill trees; now it's time to see what new tricks Moze and Zane have up their sleeves in Designer's Cut.

This week we’re bringing out the big guns (or in Moze’s case, a slightly smaller gun).

Gearbox Software's Creative Director Graeme Timmins and Game Designer Tommy Westerman are back to give us the rundown on the Bear Mother skill tree for Moze the Gunner and The Professional skill tree for Zane the Operative. These new sets of  Action Skills and powerful passive abilities allow you to create entirely new playstyles.

Check out the breakdowns below, then theorycraft your own builds with the interactive skill trees for Moze and Zane.

MOZE'S "BEAR MOTHER" SKILL TREE

Action Skill: Iron Cub

What's better than jumping into a 15-ton digistructed mech and raising hell? With the Bear Mother skill tree, the answer is simple: fighting alongside your adorably deadly Iron Cub. This miniaturized version of Iron Bear is totally autonomous and blasts your enemies with reckless abandon.

While Iron Bear and Iron Cub are mutually exclusive Action Skills, the majority of bonuses that apply to Iron Bear also work on Iron Cub, including the arsenal of Hard Point weapon attachments. When equipped, Iron Cub takes up one of your Action Skill slots and will dual-wield the weapon in your other slot.

"For players who want to keep using their hard-fought gear nonstop, the Bear Mother skill tree lets you concentrate on gunplay while Iron Cub wreaks havoc on your behalf," says Graeme. "This tree also focuses on Incendiary damage, which complements the other skill trees by offering a diverse set of builds."

By default, Iron Cub only lasts as long as its gas tank—but it certainly lasts longer than big ol' Iron Bear's due to the decreased fuel consumption of its diminutive size. So adorable!

The Bear Mother skill tree also rewards you for setting enemies ablaze—a perfect fit for fans of Hard Point weapons like the Salamander flamethrower or the new Incendiary Vladof Assault Rifles.

Here are a few impactful skills to choose from:

  • Biofuel ups your survivability as you inflict fiery pain. When Moze ignites an enemy, she regenerates health for a short time.
  • Limit Break is fantastic for players who like to diversify their damage types and keep their Action Skill active. Every elemental effect Moze currently has on an enemy increases her Action Skill Cooldown Rate.
  • Running On Fumes is the key to maximizing your mech uptime. Whenever Moze has an enemy ignited, Iron Bear/Cub won't consume any fuel. Keep charbroiling baddies and the mech party never has to end!

With a wide variety of passive abilities that regenerate fuel and reduce cooldowns, the Bear Mother skill tree gives you everything you need to keepfighting alongside (rather than inside) your mech pal.

"Oh, and Action Skill Active Anointments? Yeah, Moze can use those now too," notes Tommy. "NBD."

If you've ever wanted to show off what a proud mech momma you are, Iron Cub and the Bear Mother skill tree will make you the deadliest matriarch in the galaxy.

ZANE'S "THE PROFESSIONAL" SKILL TREE

Action Skill: MNTIS Shoulder Cannon

Zane's always eager to test out the latest and greatest methods for assassination, and he's snagged himself a doozy with the MNTIS Shoulder Cannon in The Professional skill tree. This high-tech, torso-mounted railgun has multiple charges and can snipe enemies with lethal precision, vaporizing whatever's in your crosshairs.

"Every time Zane uses his MNTIS Cannon, he activates anything that triggers on both Action Skill Use and End," explains Tommy. "With the press of a button, Zane can simultaneously activate skills like Doubled Agent's Synchronicity, multiple Anointments, and all of his Kill Skills. Skill triggers everywhere!"

The MNTIS Shoulder Cannon has a particularly wicked Augment further down The Professional skill tree. When paired with No Way Out, MNTIS shots fire a grappling hook that yanks enemies directly to you, allowing you to deal damage up close and personal. It's a completely different playstyle compared to Zane's usual ranged specialty and should lead to some amazing in-your-face builds just itching to be paired with the right shotgun.

As you'd expect from a killer of his caliber, Zane can empower critical hits and score powerful new Kill Skills by putting points into The Professional skill tree.

Here are just a few of its deadly abilities:

  • Fugitive is perfect for players who are always on the move, giving Zane the ability to shoot and sprint at the same time. Your enemies can't kill what they can't catch!
  • Commitment is a Kill Skill that grants Zane increased damage for his weapon and Action Skill. If you successfully chain this Kill Skill during a prolonged skirmish, your overall damage output will be through the roof.
  • Eraser can turn a pinpoint headshot into a multi-kill massacre. It allows your critical hits to pierce through enemies, dealing increased damage for each enemy they hit.

"Zane's new skill tree lives up to its name as The Professional," says Graeme. "The damage potential here should make for some very interesting builds."

Whether you like to perforate faraway targets with the MNTIS Shoulder Cannon or use its No Way Out grappling hook to pull enemies in for some close-up carnage, The Professional skill tree has what you need to get the job done.

These new skill trees are part of Borderlands 3's Designer's Cut DLC launching on November 10, 2020. Designer's Cut requires a copy of Borderlands 3 to play, and can be purchased individually or as part of Season Pass 2. If you haven't seen them yet, check out the new skill trees for Amara the Siren and FL4K the Beastmaster!
